Community Inclusion Action (C.I.A.) Group

The Community Inclusion Action (CIA) Group is a group that meets monthly to discuss, plan and act on various issues, such as increasing accessibility in the community, encouraging inclusion with local events, participating in community service projects, and promoting advocacy awareness.

The CIA meets on the last Thursdays of each month.

The CIA group’s goal is to advocate for a community in which everyone has equal access and opportunity by removing barriers for people who might otherwise be excluded, including those who have physical or intellectual disabilities. The group also helps each other learn and practice their own advocacy skills, so that each person can speak for themselves, and others, to make the community a better and more inclusive place. The CIA wants everyone to participate equally, confidently and independently in everyday activities.

Members of the CIA group are active in their community and take part in a variety of local service projects, from advocating for increased accessibility to participation in park clean up days.  In the past year, CIA has participated in several inclusive events such as the DCBDD Fall Festival/Chili Cookoff, Tug of War Contest, Inclusion Pool Party, Inclusive Movie Nights, Bowling, and the annual Defiance Halloween Parade.
