Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with your students. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know each of them as they grow and develop. I hope everyone has enjoyed the school year as much as I have. I will be sending home all extra clothes, snacks, supplies and student name books. Name books are made to be reused with dry erase markers and wiped clean. If you are having a hard time getting marks off try spraying some hair spray or using nail polish remover to get those stubborn marks off. Again thank you for a great year, I hope everyone has a safe and exciting summer!
This week we are going to have some fun! We are going to be talking a lot this week about summer and kindergarten. We will be having a cool summer treat in cooking as we cut up bananas and strawberries to enjoy with some cool whip. Our Lets Find Out magazine this week is about summer safety. For show and tell this week please send in something that tells about what you like to do during the summer or something that you will be doing this summer. There are just a handful of school days left. There is no School on the 27th and the 29th is students last day.
There is just over 2 weeks left of our school year and we have a lot of exciting things going on! We are practicing our songs and having rehearsal for preschool graduation every day this week. For cooking we are going to be talking about the animals that we might find at a zoo aquarium and making edible octopus. We will be taking our field trip to the zoo on Wednesday please remember to send your student in with a sack lunch. The students will not be able to take glass items or Rubbermaid containers. Everything that we take with us will be thrown away. For show and tell please send in your favorite animal (stuffed or pictures preferred but live animals are negotiable). Graduation is Friday May 17th at 9:30 AM. Students will wear a graduation cap but will not be wearing a gown. This is a special day so dress your student how you want them to be remembered in pictures.
Thank you again to everyone who has returned Zoo permission slips and money almost everyone has it in.
This week we are focusing on families. We will be spending a lot of time talking about grandparents and moms this week. We will spend time talking about other family members, and people who as important to us as our families. Not everyone's family is the same and we are going to be talking about what makes someone family and thinking about the people who are in our families. We will be doing a lot of crafty activities this week to get ready for Grandparent's Lunch and Mother's day. For show and tell please send in something that will help us learn about grandparents, moms, or an important member of the family.
If your students will be leaving after lunch on Grandparents Day please return the pink slip or simply write a note in the student's notebook so that I can inform bus drivers.

First of all I want to say thank you for everyone turning in Graduation and Grandparents lunch forms ahead of time it is greatly appreciated and it really helps me to play for those special days. Almost everyone has turned in their permission slip and $3 for the zoo field trip. If your student is not attending please return the form marked that your student will not be attending so we can use it for our attendance records. If your family has a zoo pass and you would like to use that instead please make a copy of your zoo membership and send it in head of time or bring it into the office and we can make a copy for you.
This week at school we will be taking a look at the creepy crawly world of insects. Studying insects gives us a great opportunity to look for differences where we may not have noticed them before. Insects have 3 body parts, spiders have 2. Insects have 6 legs, spiders have 8. We will also be talking about bugs, the insects that don't have the expected insect parts (2 antenna, 3 body segments, 6 legs) like worms, centipedes and other creepy crawlies. The students are getting pretty good at recognizing patterns and cycles so we are going to be looking at the life cycle of insects and butterflies. For cooking this week we are making dirt pudding complete with our own wiggly worms. In art we will be creating our very own bugs. Please send in a buggy show and tell for Thursday.
Happy Earth Day everyone. This week we will be talking about the planet Earth. We will be decorating Earth Cookies in cooking this week and I have to give a special thank you to John's Son's Donut Depot for donating the supplies for our cookies. In art this week we will be making a puffy paint picture of planet Earth. We will talk a lot about things that we can do to help the Earth when we look at our Let's Find Out magazine titled, "Too Much Trash". For show and tell please send in something that reminds us why the Earth is so great, or something that reminds us of ways that we recycle reduce or reuse things in our lives.
If you have not done so please return your Grandparents' Day and Preschool Graduation forms so we can prepare for those special days. I would hate for someone to miss out because they were not included in the count ahead of time.
Things are shaping up for another exciting week at school this week. We will be talking all about seeds and plants this week. We will be discussing what seeds are, how to make a seed grow, and even looking at the life cycle and parts of plants. Cycles are a lot like patterns so we should have no problem learning about them. For art this week we will be making pictures of the different stages of a plant's life. There will not be any show and tell this week due to IEP meetings on Thursday the 11th. There is no school for our class on that day. Please return your ASQ:SE packets ASAP.
The weather is working along with us to help us learn about spring. We will continue to talk about seeds and how plants grow. This week we will also be focusing on how plants get their water. Clouds, rain, and water are exciting things to learn about and we are going to learn all about the water cycle this week. For cooking we are making edible rain clouds and umbrellas. In art this week we will be making our own rain storms. Please send in a show and tell that has to do with water, rain, or what you like to do on a rainy day. We will also be doing some science activities where we will try to make our own rain clouds.
I am very excited to be back at school this week. It was great to get to spend some extra time with family but there are only 41 School Days left and we have a lot of fun things to learn about before the school year is over. This week we will be continuing our conversation on spring by talking about all the new life that comes into the world in the spring. We will be talking about animal babies. In cooking we will be making an animal trail mix and talking about the different names for animal babies. For example, a baby cow isn't called a baby cow it is called a calf. We will be looking at a new Let's Find Out Magazine titled "Who is My Mother" to learn about how a mother bird cares for her chicks. Just like animals people look like their parents too. For show and tell please send in pictures of Mommy and Daddy and talk about way that you look like each other (hair, eyes, number of legs anything you can think of).
Thursday April 4th we will be taking our trip to Kircher's please send in $2.50 for your student's craft if you have not yet done so.
Thursday April 11th is our class IEP meeting day. Those of you with meetings have been notified of your times Thank you to those of you who have already confirmed your meeting times.
I hope everyone enjoyed the spontaneous three day weekend. We have a very full week at school leading into spring break. We will be talking a lot about Spring and Easter. We will also be spending some time looking at the letter Y. Coach Kathy is at special training today so we will be having gym without her today. We will be doing an Easter/Spring craft on Wednesday as we transform ourselves by making bunny masks. For show and tell on Thursday please send in something for the letter Y, Easter, or Spring. Friday will be our busiest day of all. We will be watching a movie in the morning, the Shriners are throwing a pizza party for our school for lunch, and Eyon's Grandmother is coming to lead us in making our own edible spring themed snack. Just like every movie day students are allowed to wear their PJ's to school for the movie in the morning. If your student wants to wear pajamas in the morning please send extra clothes to change into for the afternoon.
No school next week. Have a fun and safe spring break.
I hope everyone is ready to say goodbye to winter as we have our last full week of winter before spring starts next week. In honor of a long hard winter we will be looking and listening for the letter 'w'. We will be making special wafter cookies in Cooking, we will be making our own windmills in art class, please send in a letter w show and tell, and we will be doing lots of letter W papers and activities. Help us say goodbye to winter by thinking warm thoughts and talking about how the season, temperature, and even our clothing are changing.
We have another exciting week ahead of us in school. This week we are going to be talking about the consonant blend /gr/. We will be trying to think of as many great 'gr' words as we can. We will be grinning as we snack on green grapes and graham crackers for cooking. For art we will be greeting a warm weather insect as we make green grasshoppers. Please send in a 'gr' show and tell, if you are having a hard time thinking of something then send in something great or something green. This week we will also be having a special mystery guest. Be sure to ask your student about who the grey visitor was.
Our special guest was rescheduled for Friday. Nancy Meyer from Greyhound Rescue of Defiance will be brining in a greyhour for us to meet.
I hope everyone is ready for the end of Children's Dental Health Month. This week we will be looking at the letter D. We will be making edible dentures in cooking, and we will be making our very own Dog for our art project. Please send in a letter D show and tell for Thursday.
This week I will be finishing up testing with the students for their upcoming ETR and IEP meetings. Keep checking your student book bag for the ASQ:SE form which will need to be filled out again for end of the year Kindergarten evaluations.
I hope everyone had a great three day weekend! We need the extra rest for this windy week! For this shortened week we will be talking about Presidents Day and focusing on the different sounds that "E" makes. E makes the long sound and says it's name /e/ and it makes a short sound that doesn't care /eh/. We will also be introducing blending sounds as we look at how E and R sound together in words like, preschool, tree, and green. For show and tell this week send in something for the letter E, the /re/ sound, or something to do with teeth. We really look forward to seeing the creative items students bring in for show and tell and it provides them with a great opportunity to present to the class. Many older students and adults experience anxiety when speaking in front of others. The students are doing a great job of sharing information with the class and the better prepared they are for show and tell time the less nervous students will be.
We will be continuing to talk about teeth and dentists this week and trying to do a great job of brushing our teeth at school. Everyone really enjoyed our visit from a real Dental Hygienist!

We had a great week last week! Everyone really enjoyed taking a visit to the Veterinarian's office. We got to see a lot of really cool medical equipment and we even got to see how the Veterinarian gives a dog an examination.

We enjoyed it so much later that week we pretended to have our own veterinarian's office with a lot of sick animals.
/>
This week we are going to be having a mash up of themes. We are going to be continuing to talk about Valentine's day and the letter V and starting to talk about our Teeth. February is Children's Dental Health month and we will be having a visit this week from a Dental Hygienist. She is visiting to teach us more about our teeth and how to take care of them. We will be making cinnamon sugar hearts in cooking on Monday. For our art project this week we will be making Valentine's day bags and we will be getting out the painting easel and attempting to paint a heart while standing up! Send in a show and tell about something that you love on Thursday for a special Valentine's Day edition of show and tell. Don't forget we will be having a party that same day. Feel free to send in Valentine's treats early.
There is no school on Monday the 18th in honor of Presidents day
Sorry for not getting the chance to update the webpage sooner. I was feeling a little under the weather Sunday night and was not able to make it to school on Monday.
This week we are talking all about the letter V. We are going to be making Valentine's Day decorations, talking about our trip to the veterinarians' office, trying to see v in our books and trying to hear v in our conversations. We are really looking forward to our field trip on Wednesday! Be sure to ask about the things we see at the Veterinarian's office.
Last week we tried to complete the puzzle in small groups but it was a very big challenge. When the whole class worked together we were finaly able to complete the puzzle! It's amazing what we can do when we work together with our friends.
I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing day off on Monday. This week at school we will be focusing on the letter O. In art we will be making an octopus out of paper bags, complete with googly eyes. We will be doing some of our Monday activities related to this weeks letter today. Students will still get the opportunity to search books for the letter O, we will practice listening for the sounds O makes, and we will practice writing the letter o. It's easy, "starts like c, keeps on going, stop at the top" Please send in letter O show and tell for Thursday. Friday will be a normal swim day.
Thank you to everyone who quickly returned their field trip form and Taco Bell money. Many of the students have already begun asking if today is the day we go on the field trip. I think they are more excited about Taco Bell then visiting the vet but we are all looking forward to the trip.
I hope everyone had a good MLK Jr. day with their families. This week at school we will be looking at the letter R. We will be making raccoons in art and having letter R for show and tell.
On February 6th we are planning a class field trip to the Defiance Veterinary Clinic. After our visit we will be stopping at Taco Bell for lunch.
The kids meal will be 2.69 and they will get the choice of:
Hard Taco, Soft Taco, Bean Burrito, Cheese Roll Up
The meal will also come with Cinnamon twists and a drink
Please send in student's lunch money and choice ASAP so we can set up a smooth lunch process.
Time for a full week of a fun! This week will be very challenging for some of the students in the class. We are going to be focusing on the letter L. This is an easy letter to recognize and to write but it can be very challenging for students to produce the sound. We will be hand squeezing lemons to make lemonade in cooking. We will be making a Lion in art using crayons, construction paper, and a paper plate. Please send in lovely things that are related to the letter L for show and tell.
All families should have received a notice for the transition meeting for kindergarten. This meeting is attended by school and district representatives so we can discuss the potential placement of your student in the kindergarten setting. Please return the bottom section of the notice to school ASAP. Meetings start January 17th.
I hope everyone is happy and healthy for another week of school. These drastic weather changes are difficult on everyone's body so we are paying close attention to warning signs of illness. Just a reminder, if your student has a fever please keep them out of school for at least 24 hours after the fever breaks. Use that same 24 hours if a student is starting an antibiotic. Any illness can be difficult on a family so please help us to limit the amount we are exposed to at school. If you have more in depth questions that might be over a teachers head, please feel free to contact Nurse Helen. She is a great resource for any student health concerns.
This week we are talking about the letter N. We will be starting off our week by making a delicious batch of nachos! We will be making our very own nests in art class. We will be working on our finger grips as we try to rip our papers into strips that resemble dried grass or sticks. For an added challenge students will try using a "beak" to build their nest by using a pair of tweezers to pick up the "sticks" and use them to build the nest. Please send in a letter N show and tell on Thursday!
I really enjoyed getting to do progress reports with the students. Everyone in the class showed improvement! The students name books have been updated to include all of our letters and we will be adding a place to practice dialing our phone number. I will be using the home phone number from the Family Information Sheet. If there is a number that you prefer your student practice please send a note. Once students are able to dial their number on the practice phone, without looking, that student will get the chance to dial the number on a real phone!
No School on January 21st for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday break. I am really excited to start back into school and ready for a short week. This week we will be talking about what we did over the holiday break, 2013 the year of the snake, and focusing on behavior expectations. After a break it can be hard (even for adults) to get back into the swing of things so we are going to take this short week to review some comfortable skills and get a lot of reminders of how big kids behave. For art on Wednesday we are making a number snake in honor of 2013 the year of the Snake. On Thursday please send in a Christmas gift for show and tell. We would love to see something special and hear about who gave the gift.
I will be assessing student learning for progress reports this week and next. I will pull students aside to check their knowledge of shapes, colors, numbers, ability to write their name, knowledge of birthday, phone number, address, and a few other learning goals. I am excited to see where students are improving
I hope everyone is ready for a fun filled week! This week we will not be introducing any new letters but we will be talking a lot about winter and the holiday season. We will be using ice creme cones to make our own edible pine trees complete with winter snow and holiday decorations. On Tuesday the Defiance middle school choir will be coming to sing for us. Wednesday we will be making top secret presents for parents. Thursday we will have a busy day. We are watching Polar Express in the morning, we will be having a gift exchange and party in the afternoon.
If you would like to send in treats or gifts to share with the class there are 12 students, 3 girls and 9 boys. Please remember to send in a gift for our classroom gift exchange. We have a few gifts under our tree already! Please do not spend more then $5 and clearly mark who the present is from.

I am excited for another week at school! This week we are talking about the letter "k" We are making graham cracker kites in cooking, and we are making kittens in art this week out of paper plates. Hopefully there are no delays or cancelations today. It would be nice to get a full week in.
We will be having a holiday party on December 20th. Please send in a gift under $5 for a gift exchange. Have your student's name on the gift and if the gift is for a boy, girl, or both. Girls bring for girls, and boys bring for boys but if it's something everyone would like that's even better!
I hope everyone enjoyed the fog day and the Holiday program. We had a lot of fun practicing and preparing for the show. Everyone was very excited to have their families come and see them perform. This week we are introducing the letter J. We will be talking about different jobs, jingle bells, Jolly old Santa Claus. For art we will be making jelly fish out of paper plates and strips of paper. Thursday is still show and tell please get creative and send in some good letter J things to share.
Along with those activities we will be doing some holiday crafts. We made a fire when we talked about the letter F and it has been turned into a fireplace. We will be making stockings for our fireplace, using prints of our hands to make a Christmas tree, and making lots of other fun decorations for our classroom and homes.
I am excited to get a full week with the students again. We work really hard at the activities in a normal routine so it will be interesting to see how the students do after a Holiday week. I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
This week we will be focusing on the letter "i". We will be making ice creme by hand in cooking this week. We are going to make igloos out of marsh mellows in art and I am really excited to see what comes in for show and tell on Thursday.
A reminder that the Holiday program is on Monday December 3rd. We are doing a dress rehearsal at school that day so please send your student wearing red and green. I will be providing the rest of the costume for the performance.
Everyone loved our Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend.

Two short weeks in a row make for an interesting time at school. We will be continuing to work on our letters talking about the letters T and H. We will also be spending a lot of time talking about Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims, and the Wampanog Indians who helped the pilgrims during the first year. In art on the we will be making turkeys in art class on the 14th and we will be making a thanksgiving wreath on the 21st. Bring in a letter T show and tell on the 15th. Students can also bring in something they are thankful for. Next week we will also be having a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving feast. We will watch some of the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special and try to prepare our own feast just like Snoopy makes in the movie.
We had a great time at the Grocery store last week!

Drive safely and enjoy the extra days off for our Thanksgiving holiday.
This week we will be talking about the letter G. We will be making gram cracker giraffes in cooking this week. We will be making gardens in art class, doing some table work about the letter G and counting, and having a letter G show and tell. Thursday we will also be taking our trip to the grocery store and DQ.
Please check backpacks for paperwork about upcoming events. Please return NHS Santa Shoppe, Holiday Program, and school survey forms as soon as possible. We will be starting rehearsals for the holiday program this week.
I hope everyone is ready for an eerie Halloween week at school. This week we will be talking about Halloween and the letter E. We will be discussing how vowels have two sounds the long "eee" sound and the short "eh" sound. This is a tricky idea but I am excited to see how the students do. Watch out for our craft this week! You will say "EeeK" when you get spooked by our scary monster masks. Monster masks were put on the shelf so we could make treat bags for our Halloween celebration. Students will make ears and holes for eyes for their monster and the rest will be free to them to create whatever they please. For show and tell send something in for the letter "E" or a spooky Halloween Show and tell. There will not be any swimming on Friday due to the Halloween celebration. Send a costume in with your student to change into at school. Sadly I will not be present for the Halloween festivities, there will be a substitute teacher in the class that day.
I will be pulling students out to evaluate their knowledge of colors, numbers, common shapes, and a few other core skills. This is a quick and easy evaluation done one on one with each student. The students are just asked to play a game with me so it is low pressure for them, I try to save the stress for the SAT.
