EARLY INTERVENTION
Early Intervention Services are available to help families with infants and toddlers, ages birth through two years, who have a documented developmental delay. The child and family’s strengths and needs are determined through a process of assessment and evaluation. An IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan) is developed and an Early Intervention Specialist is assigned to work with the family unit in either the home or in a center based setting.
Services for the family may include:
- Service Coordination
- Specialized Instruction
- Occupational, physical and speech/language therapy
- Transition Planning, Services, and classes
- Family Support Services
Early Intervention personnel are certified/registered through the Ohio Department of MRDD
PRESCHOOL SERVICES
Preschool classes are available for children from three through five years of age. An IEP (Individualized Education Program) is developed for children who have been assessed and identified with a disability or developmental delay(s). Classes are held Monday through Friday and are full-day sessions. Children with developmental delays are in classrooms with typically developing peers.
Services offered preschoolers include:
- Developmentally appropriate preschool curriculum
- AEPS (Assessment, Evaluation & Programming System)
- Related services based on the needs of the child
- Adapted Physical Education
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Speech/language Therapy
- Transportation
Preschool Teachers/Assistants are licensed/certified by the Ohio Department of Education.
SCHOOL-AGE SERVICES
Good Samaritan School provides an educational alternative to students, ages six through 21, with varying disabilities (multiple disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, other health impaired, etc.). Students are offered a functional curriculum based on the Ohio Department of Education academic content standards and guided by an IEP (Individualized Education Program). Classes provide training in basic knowledge, communication, socialization, independent living and leisure skills, and vocational skills. Training sites throughout the community help vocational students prepare for employment.
Services offered school age students include:
- Related services based on the needs of the child
- Physical Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech/language Therapy
- Transition services for students 14 years and older
- Transportation
- Health and nursing services/screenings
Teachers/Assistants are licensed/certified by the Ohio Department of Education.
RELATED SERVICES
Many of the children served by Good Samaritan School have a myriad of handicapping conditions requiring the expertise of individuals trained in specific areas. Services provided include adapted physical education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech/language therapy.
Additionally, Good Samaritan employs a full-time nurse to meet the medical needs of the students. The duties of the nurse include emergency care, referral, health screenings, parent education, and family support services.
All related service personnel are licensed by the by the Ohio Department of Education as well as by the appropriate state professional board.
